Announce 2008 Urban League Award Winners on Thursday, March 27

To Be Celebrated at the Urban League’s 16th Annual Awards Gala

WHAT:

The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and Comcast will announce the 2008 winners of the Urban League’s annual awards at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 27 at the Urban League’s headquarters at 88 Warren Street in Roxbury. The award winners will go on to be celebrated as honored guests at the Urban League’s 2008 Awards Gala in early April. Comcast’s top executive in New England, Kevin Casey, the Chairman of the 2008 Awards Gala, will also announce a $25,000 grant from the Comcast Foundation to the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts.

The 2008 award winners to be announced Thursday are:

  • Kai Leigh Harriott and her mother, Tonya David, will receive the Lee F. Jackson Achievement Award for bringing the community together, despite her tragic injury from urban violence.
  • Massachusetts General Hospital will receive the Corporate Leadership Award for working with the Urban League to address health care disparities.
  • The Boston Celtics' "Heroes Among Us" program will receive the Mollie Moon Award for its impact in promoting volunteerism in the community.
  • Monster.com will receive the President's Award for working with the Urban League to increase access to employment opportunities and career advancement throughout Greater Boston.
