The Center seeks to focus the resources that ULEM uses to provide supplemental services and to conduct complementary activities under one roof. Within this center, our Public Policy and Advocacy Initiatives aims to empower the community and fight injustice in all sectors of our society. We are often viewed as a powerful voice in the African-American community and collaborate with other grassroots organizations to help solve community problems. The Executive Director often expresses the local and national Urban League's view on current events via the local news media, weekly publications and during public forums. Also within the Empowerment Center, ULEM addresses the issue of health disparities in the African American community. ULEM has hosted a series of health events on issues of particular concern to ULEM's constituents, such as: Diabetes, Depression, and Alzheimer's disease.
